SBS Cardboard
Premium bleached substrate engineered for retail-ready packaging with sharp, high-resolution print performance across bulk SKUs.
Custom sweet boxes protect chocolates, candies, truffles, homemade treats, and mixed confectionery during packing, stacking, and delivery. Product movement and grease transfer are the two issues that most often decide structure and board choice before any print or finish is considered. A box that is too large lets pieces collide; untreated paperboard shows oil marks from soft centers or syrups within hours. Matching fill weight, product shape, and handling conditions first produces packaging that actually works on the counter and in transit.

You pack the sweets carefully. The box looks fine on the table. Then the customer opens it and finds crushed corners, shifted chocolates, or oil stains on the board.
That is the real cost of choosing the wrong size or structure. Soft-center chocolates and sticky toffees move the moment the box has extra space. Oil starts transferring onto plain board within hours.
The practical starting point for custom sweet boxes is always the product itself—its weight, shape, and how it will be packed, stored, and moved. Colour and logo come after the structure is right.
Most light retail runs use a simple tuck-end or crash-lock base. These assemble quickly by hand and keep cost down.
When contents are irregular (assorted chocolates, layered bars, mixed favour pieces), a die-cut insert or divider becomes necessary.
Sweet boxes with inserts:
Corrugated or thicker dividers work better for heavier loads or multi-layer stacking.
A tight insert controls movement well but slows packing on a busy counter. Loose tissue works for very light items yet offers almost no protection once the box is tilted.
Sweet boxes with window help retail display and gift sets by letting customers see the product. The cut-out reduces printable surface and can weaken the top panel if the opening is large or near a fold.
Locking bases stay closed under handling and stack pressure. Simple tuck flaps cost less and produce faster but may open when boxes are moved repeatedly.
The decision depends on packing method (hand-filled small batches versus wholesale cartons) and the journey after the box leaves the packing table.
Paperboard is adequate for light, dry sweets with short shelf life.
Once fill weight rises or the product contains butter, cocoa butter, or syrup, board caliper and barrier coating matter more than appearance. Heavier board improves stacking stiffness but raises material use and shipping weight.
Corrugated board adds compression strength for longer transit or bulk sweet candy boxes. It takes more storage space and prints with less fine detail.
Kraft board gives the natural look many homemade and artisan brands prefer. The brown surface absorbs lighter inks and can mute bright colours. White bleached board accepts full-colour graphics cleanly but shows grease stains more readily unless a barrier is applied.
Grease-resistant coatings or liners stop oil from migrating into the fibres and keep the exterior clean. They can affect recycling routes depending on the coating type.
Moisture from chilled or refrigerated sweets softens untreated board. A moisture-resistant surface or secondary wrap is often needed.
Food-contact suitability depends on the exact board, inks, and internal coatings chosen for the order. Underspecifying the board for oily or heavier sweets is one of the most common reasons packaging fails.
Short runs and seasonal designs usually run digital. Longer or repeating orders move to offset for colour consistency.
Heavy exterior ink coverage shows scuffs and fingerprints more clearly during handling, especially on matte finishes. Soft-touch or selective gloss finishes highlight branding but add cost and need careful packing.
Windows reduce space for graphics. A clear film patch keeps the product visible while still allowing print around the opening. On kraft stock, lighter colours often need a white underprint to stay legible.
Physical samples and proof approval remain the reliable way to confirm both colour and structural fit.
Flat-packed boxes save warehouse space and are assembled only when needed. Pre-glued styles speed packing lines but take more volume in inventory.
Outer cartons for cardboard sweet boxes wholesale must match the stacked height and weight of the filled boxes so lower layers do not crush.
Courier bags, temperature swings, and multiple transfers decide whether a simple tuck box is enough or whether reinforced corners are safer.
Bulk orders for Christmas or gifting often combine a printed outer with a plain or lightly printed insert. Small favour boxes prioritise fast assembly. Larger assortment boxes need stronger bases and secure lids.

Artwork files, colour references, and any food-contact or recycling preferences complete the brief. These details determine board grade, structure, print method and production route so the finished boxes protect the product and handle the way you need them to.
